2.2.1.4.Separation of Occupancies

(1) Except as provided in Sentence (2), major occupancies shall be separated from adjoining major occupancies by fire separations having fire-resistance ratings conforming to Table 2.2.1.4. (2) If one major occupancy is located above another major occupancy, the fire-resistance rating of the floor assembly between the major occupancies shall be determined on the basis of the requirements of this Section for the lower major occupancy. (3) Occupancies other than major occupancies shall be separated from adjoining occupancies belonging to a different Group or Division by fire separations having fire-resistance ratings that conform to Table 2.2.1.4., but need not be more than 1 h.
