Who writes and reviews these answers
Building code content is only worth reading if you know who checked it and against which edition. Here is both.
John Frasca — architectural technologist. John runs Uptown Developments Inc., a design-build practice in Woodbridge, Ontario that prepares and stamps permit drawings under the Ontario Building Code, and carries the resulting sets through municipal plan review. Every answer on this site is reviewed against that day-to-day permitting experience — including the deficiency notices municipalities return on real submissions.
Each answer is written from the 2024 Ontario Building Code (O. Reg. 163/24) and carries the exact Division, Part, Section or Article it comes from, so you can open the provision yourself in the Code Library and read the wording in full. Where an answer paraphrases the code for readability, it says so and links to the verbatim text. Nothing here is generated and published unreviewed.
Answers are re-checked against the current code edition and the date is shown on every page. This set was last reviewed on 2026-09-07 against the 2024 Ontario Building Code (O. Reg. 163/24). When Ontario amends the Code, affected answers are re-verified before the date is moved.
BUILDAiD is a research and drafting aid, not a substitute for a designer, engineer or your municipal building department. It does not review your specific project, and it does not assume liability for a design decision. For a project-specific opinion, engage a qualified designer — and confirm with the authority having jurisdiction, who always has the final word.
