9.23.13.3.Requirements for Extreme Wind and Seismic Forces

(1) Except as provided in Articles 9.23.13.1. and 9.23.13.2., this Article applies in locations where (a) the seismic spectral acceleration, Sa(0.2), is (i) greater than 1.8, (ii) greater than 0.70 and the lowest exterior frame wall supports more than 2 floors in buildings of light construction, or (iii) greater than 0.70 and the lowest exterior frame wall supports more than 1 floor in buildings of heavy construction, or (b) the 1-in-50 hourly wind pressure is equal to or greater than 1.20 kPa. (2) Bracing to resist lateral loads shall be designed and constructed in accordance with (a) Part 4, or (b) good engineering practice such as that provided in CWC 2014, “Engineering Guide for Wood Frame Construction.”
